Kundalini Yoga: Unlocking the 7 Chakras 

By practicing yoga ofcourse you wouldn’t levitate or radiate a blinding light behind your skull. However with diligence and practice, yoga can teach you to master your inner working of your body, mind and spirit. One can raise your temperature in cold climates, or lower your body temperature in a hot climate, increase vitality, immunity and help provide a long lasting life, one free from ailments and illnesses. However yoga is not just these benefits, there are psychological and spiritual attributes that you can add to your repertoire. 

According to the yogis there are certain chants, asanas and meditative stances which when practised and mastered, can help deal with certain constraints and barriers in you. These constraints are the 7 chakras which when unlocked, will allow you to tap into your true potential, a self-actualised version of yourself. However, when unlocked it is recommended that you implement a particular lifestyle or embed a state of mind that grounds you and prevents you from exploiting this innate power that lies within everyone. 

A Tibetan monk mastered the inner workings of his own mind and body that he burnt himself alive without uttering a sound. For someone who has complete control over oneself, can achieve anything if he/she puts their mind to it. Although this isn’t the benchmark we wish to keep for everyone who practices yoga, but an example of what humans are capable of when mastering the art of yoga.

The 7 Chakras or Kundalini Yoga (Meaning & Benefits)

1. Muladhara – Root Chakra

The “Survival & Stability Department”

📍 Base of the spine
🌱 Element: Earth
🧠 Controls: Safety, money mindset, stability, legs, knees, colon, lower back
 

😬 When blocked:

  • Constant worry about future & finances
  • Feeling unsafe or unsupported
  • Lower back pain, knee pain, constipation
  • Insecurity and fear-based decisions

  • Tadasana
  • Malasana
  • Vajrasana
  • Slow Surya Namaskar

Muladhara is responsible for making you feel “grounded.”
If this chakra is weak, even sitting still feels stressful and your mind lives on tomorrow.

2. Svadhisthana – Sacral Chakra

The “Emotions, Pleasure & Creativity Department”

Controls:

  • Creativity
  • Hormones & reproductive health
  • Relationships & joy
  • Emotional expression

     

Blocked symptoms:

  • Guilt
  • Low libido
  • Mood swings
  • Fear of emotional closeness
  • Loss of interest in creative hobbies

     

Yoga that heals:

  • Bhujangasana
  • Baddha Konasana
  • Pelvic tilts
  • Hip-opening flows

If this chakra is blocked, even chocolate loses emotional power.

3. Manipura – Solar Plexus Chakra

The “Confidence & Digestion Department”

  • Decision-making

Blocked symptoms:

  • Indigestion
  • Low confidence

4. Anahata – Heart Chakra

  • Loneliness
  • Fear of trust

When this chakra opens, you stop holding grudges like trophies.

5. Vishuddha – Throat Chakra

The “Communication & Truth Department”

6. Ajna – Third Eye Chakra

With the 7 chakras open, you may experience astral projection or the least have a really good work life balance and a healthy livelihood. Also breathe during every asanas and ensure you do not over exert yourself. The whole idea is to maintain or correct your posture and live healthy and fit, not harm your physique just to master a pose.
